On the Street: Lady in White

Took this photo eons back.

She walked past me and I saw her beautiful chignon.

The lighting and timing was perfect. If she took one more step she would have been in the shade.

Burberry Prorsum Resort 2012

Fashion Houses are showcasing their Resort 2012 Collection! I'll be featuring my faves in upcoming posts! I started with Zac Posen's last night and I've been endlessly trying to pick my faves. I'll keep it to 5 posts max but gosh, forgive me if I posts more than that!

Burberry Prorsum.

I love how Christopher Bailey puts a spin to Burberry's signature trench coat with every collection and this collection is no exception.

(Also loving their very English Rose models)

Burberry Foldable Sunnies!

Burberry Foldable Sunglasses

I</span>Burberry Foldable Sunglasses<span class=

How awesome are these Burberry foldable sunnies?

Love the colours available but the only downside is that the zippered pouch it comes with is in boring plain black.

My Constant Lover

I asked Mr. Wonderful a question,

Me: "what's my favourite colour?"
Mr. Wonderful: "..uh.."
(looking very very worried)
Mr. Wonderful : "Hey! Wait a minute! You tried to trick me! You have no particular favourite colour!"

Hehe. Its true. I've no particular favourite colour. I fall in and out of love with colour schemes tho.

But I do have a constant colour scheme I just keep coming back to.

Its like knowing that you have a lover at home who'll wait for you forever despite you're fickleness.

Without much further ado, I present to you my loyal lover!

Yes I've even named it. But I am thinking of using it for my blog. Just tiny tweaks to reflect my favourite colour inspiration. What do you think?

Uniqlo Chinos are the best!

I love love the Great Singapore Sale! Don't you?

Altho I can't  really afford to go shopping but I couldn't pass it up! Since I'm starting work next week Monday (wish me luck!), I thought its a good cause to get myself some new duds to wear!

I love the fact that attire at the office is casual but at the same time I do want to look smart as well without going to the jeans and tee routine.

So when I saw these chinos from Uniqlo on offer, I had to own a pair!
(I got the one in Khaki)

They're smart looking but at the same time, I won't look overdressed for work! I hope to get another pair soon but I'm in need of a top and a pair of sexy wedges to go with my my new pants and I shall get some today.

Too bad I'm starting work soon. I'm pretty sure its not appropriate for work to have feathers in your hair. Sigh..

One can dream.

Colour blocking

I love dressing up but my problem is that I'm cash strapped and my standard "uniform" is a basic tee and jeans.

Because of that I tend to invest a lot on accessories and do my hair differently (Still in a messy chignon stage here, might do something drastic if the weather don't let up)

I have LOTS of bags, a few heels, lots of bangles (I'm an arm candy type of gal), necklaces and now I'm into nail polish!

I totally suck at caring for my nails. Next to my feet they're the most neglected part of me.

Anyway, I got inspired by colour blocking trends right now especially by the beautiful orange in this particular Celine pouch.

(image via keepitchic)

I definitely couldn't afford the price tag for this baby but I do recall I have a bag in my closet that I can rework.. Hmm..

Anyway, I did this to my nails!

A shock of orange

Uh.. I totally suck to applying nail polish. I usually exploit my best friend cos she's a lot better at it and to make up for it I buy her nail polish. Sometimes.

Anyway I use, China Glaze Recycle and Life Preserver.

I love the orange of this nail polish! Its more of a persimon than a life preserver orange.
As for the grey, its more of a concrete grey than in the picture.

I used my camera to take this photo. I think Wanderlust need to catch more sun. (Yes I've mentioned before that I name my electronics and Wanderlust is my DSLR, Cupcake my semi-working laptop and I'm still debating if I should name my new phone Capt'n or Ampersand)

Okay! That's all for now! I gotta go get ready for work!

70s inspired

Long hair. I love it. I've always favored having shorter hair length and I haven't sported long hair since I was in Secondary 1 and was dubbed "Hermione" in school.

For the wrong reasons. (As in her hair in the first Harry Potter movie)

Having long hair is such a pain that most of the time I just put it up in a ponytail or a bun. And that washing it can be such a pain. I take forever in the shower.

But having long hair is fun! Altho I put up my hair in a ponytail or a bun, I do it with a twist when I'm out.

Like this bun.

I hate letting my hair down but I so do love the Farah Fawcet look of the 70s.

So this is my 70s inspired hair when I met up with a friend to celebrate his birthday a few weeks back albeit slightly less overblown.

Kinda an easy look. It helps if you have bangs.

Spray a bit of hair spray. Curl your hair. Do a centre parting and tease the crown a lil bit and viola!

A 70s inspired hairstyle!

Not much of a tutorial but I'm still getting the hang of styling my hair when I go out.

(PS: This kinda just a filler post. Cos I'm going out today and I've yet to edit photos I took over the weekend! >.<)

Period films fashion in real life

(marie antoinette: peter stigter via hila-lumiere)

Oh my goodness! You've got to check this compilation by Diana of Miss Moss at Hila Lumiere!

She puts period film fashion side by side street styles in and around the world!

I love period film and the costumes so to recreate something wearable and inspired by them is heavenly.

Online Zines Love

I am a huge fan of indie magazines be it printed or digital.

So I'm dedicating this post to the wonderful magazines I read. Strangely most of them are free. Hmm.

First is Catalog Magazine.

(Image: Catalog)

Its published in Singapore monthly and focuses on shopping & fashion for both ladies AND gentlemen. Best part is its available for free! But limited to 30,00 copies so getting my hands on this is quite a task. I usually hunt for this at The Cathay cos some of the stores there distribute them. But if hunting for them is too much of a hassle, you can always subscribe or settle for the digital version available on their website.
I also hear they have an iPad app version.

As for me. I hunt for them, I prefer the printed word and the covers are a work of art!

Also another Singapore indie magazine is Juice Singapore

As I've mentioned before, a monthly publication focusing mostly on music and cool social scenes. Hunting this one is hard too but they have digital versions to console myself with.

Next up is Rue Magazine.

(Image: Rue)

I read this in digital cos its an American publication. My absolutely favourite digital mag. Its inspirational, beautiful and makes me want to pop a bottle of pink champagne. They're a lifestyle magazine and feautures lots of indie artisans and businesses. Their website also has cool downloads! Its bi-monthly but so worth the wait and I adore their videos. Also available in the iPad. (seriously with this much reads, I'm so tempted to put the iPad on my, "I-Want-To-Buy-But-I'm-Broke" List)

Matchbook magazine is another beautiful magazine to browse. All digital and free online. It is slightly more tailored to an older crowd and more elegance than fun. They also focus on indie lifestyle and I've also posted about them. Issue 2 is out by the way!

So what bout you? What are your favourites?

Excuse me now while I go and read these mags.

I have been craving for these like I crave a for Johnny Depp

WEDGES.

I have been craving for wedges. Vaguely, chunky shoes, specifically wedges. I don't really like rapier-thin stilettos as I feel as if I'm precariously ready to tip over and I always feel as if I was Hagrid with huge man feet that doesn't do justice to delicate strappy heels. If I had to wear heels, I'd choose heels with a little bit more substance like this,

(PS: I seem to gravitate to shoes with suede finishes like my purple mary jane-esque shoes)
And if I get bored with it, I'll just pop on a pair of heels condom to jazz it up a bit.

And yes there's such thing as a heel condom.
The best thing thought up of ever next to Star Wars. Seriously, why has it never been done before till now??

Anyway, I'm not really a fan of open toed shoes cos as I've said, I barely notice I have feet with toes that can be painted on unless I stub them. (poor feet and toes)
But this pair might just do it for me.

Sigh.. what could go wrong with a pair of these beauties and yes with these I'll get a pedicure for sure. Orange, a life-jacket orange would do the trick.

Anyway. the first pair of shoes, the Gelsey Wedges is what I want. I actually saw a pair at loveandbravery.com.

Its lower in height but it makes it so wearable and I have been known to suffer a little bit from vertigo from time to time if I wear sky-high heels. (who wouldn't?)
I actually saw it a few weeks back when it was in stock but I agonized too long and it was sold out. Then a miracle happened.
They opened up a backorder for it.
I asked Mr. Wonderful about it but he said not to get it cos he reminded me I still need to get my shoes for my graduation Dinner & Dance. Oh and I am wearing the little black toga dress for that Do.

AND I happen to find a corset from sorella for S$35ish to help with that tummy bulge issue. Most body shapers sell for an outrageous price of up to $200. I guess I need to exercise more cos that's just too expensive.

ANYWAY, I blame Mr. Wonderful cos the backorder's closed and I am still craving for the shoes really badly. I actually dreamt about them last night. Along with a slew of other things.

I actually planned this post to feature a little bit more things but gosh I got carried away. Hey maybe I could make this a little weekly feature and what a great way to let Mr. Wonderful know what I want. Haha!

Oh by the way the next item I crave for is a bag.

Honestly I don't know if I'm more of a shoe slut or a bag whore.

Pretty Woman Week: The Dress

Pretty Woman maybe set in the 90s but some of the clothes are timeless.

My favourite being the dress she wore to the Polo Match.

She also carries this cute shoulder bag to match. Its hard to get the photo but if you watch this scene below you'll see.

One of my favourite colour combinations are brown and cream. I just find the combination elegant. So, I'm putting together an inspiration board for the look and the colours. :D

The Little Black Dress

I've always griped about how its disgustingly hard for me to find clothes or more specifically dresses that both fit my waist and my hips.

Its either perfectly nipped at the waist and absolutely constraining on my hips, or perfect at the hips but so loose on the waist.

I know the best solution is a bandage dress but I'm not into dresses that wraps me up like a sausage. A lumpy bulgy one mind you, due to the stretch fabric.

If you're wondering if this is another post lamenting about the injustice of having a hip size bigger than my waist, you all can take a big sigh of relief. Cos its the opposite.

Last week, I saw a dress. A little black toga dress.

I tried it on, I fell in love with it immediately. It fit me like a dream (altho I still have a bit of bulging tummy but who doesnt??)

Altho it was ridiculously marked down, it was still pricey. I won't mention the price. Okay nevermind, since I practically told everyone who would listen the price and I can't help but brag at how awesome the bargain was, it was orginally priced at $305 and marked down to $120.

I decided to put it at back despite Mr. Wonderful's insistence that I get it cos he thinks I look hot in it. *rolls yes*

Now, a week later after much deliberation and a strange reoccurring dream of me wearing that dress. I went back, tried it, realised I wasn't dreaming when it still fitted me perfectly but still have that damn tummy bulge.

There and then, I said, "Its now or never"

I got it. For $95 ish. It was marked down further.

I am so glad I waited.

Here's the dress with the beautiful beaded details on the sleeve and the bodice. (PS. Just realised that the sleeve is so like the puffy sleeve of my national costume. Haha!)

I have no idea where I should wear it still (I have 3 events in mind) but its always good to have a little black dress in your closet.

Consider it an investment. Don't have one? Get one. A good quality one and not the Bugis Street variety. Make sure the cut and silhouette is timeless and classic so it doesn't pass with the trends.

Oh and I know you'll ask where I got it from. Dresscode, Level 1 of The Cathay. Its a multi label boutique, I saw a Marc by Marc Jacob Bag and Lanvin for H&M shoes. Dresses are mostly Hong Kong High street fashion lines.  Not sure when the sale end tho

Free People February - FP Girls from FreePeople on Vimeo.

I love Free People and this video for their February Catalog reminds me hot sweltering summer, condensation on a tall glass of ice tee, listening to the radio and huge aviator sunglasses.

If the weather becomes hot and sunny again, I'm definitely heading to the beach.
After exams that is.

(PS: Anyone knows the music of the video?)

The messy ponytail

I'm not really the type to keep long hair, I'm quite surprised that I've kept my hair past my shoulder. I happen to have an impulsive tendency to just go to the nearest hair salon and chop it all off.

Thank goodness, I have Mr. Wonderful to yell "NO!" to me.

Which is kinda funny cos I don't really listen to orders well. Anyway, I did instruct him to dissuade me if the taught of going to visit a salon came to mind as I intend to have enough hair for my school's Dinner and Dance to style.
Oh and also to dissuade me from playing hair stylist as I have delusions of being a good enough hair stylist that I cut my own hair.

Anyway I digress,

I decide to do a quick scan of my favourite blogs and I came across this tutorial for a really cute hairstyle!

(via: cup of jo)

She not only posted instructions on how to go about achieving this, but photos as well for people like me who can only follow visual instructions. (Thank you God for Youtube) Its inspired by the J. Crew Spring Lookbook which is amazing!

Now to try it tomorrow for the G+ Lo Hei Session!

Obsessed

Its official! I'm obsessed with bows (and the colour orange)! I've crocheted a dozen bow brooches in the past month and I can't stop! I love bows and I need more!

I need to find a top/dress with 3/4 sleeves and bows at the cuff! Preferably in this beautiful shade of orange. It'll contrast my purple shoes (which coincidentally ties up with a ribbon bow)

Shoe Fetishism

I tweeted last night about buying shoes after the workshop and how it was such an impulsive buy for me! Well technically its not impulsive but I don't want to hash up the excuses reasons why its technically not impulsive. (PS: This means, you've got to start following me on twitter!)

And it was on sale!
Wait, why am I feeling guilty and justifying my techincally-not-impulsive-buy??

Ribbon Laces

Its a rich royal purple suede shoes and the height is just perfect for the girl who suffers from mild vertigo if I wear too high a heels.

Here's a couple of action shot.

shoes1

The main reason why I bought it is because, I saw a similar pair online, a pair of shoes by modcloth.com named after the Unicorn Queen, Doe Deere and creator of Lime Crime Makeup.

Photo from modcloth.com - Doe Deere Shoes
Its a peep toe suede shoes but I just couldn't justify paying for the shipping costs and and the price of the shoes.

So when I saw my purple shoes at chocolate schubar, you know what happened next.

Excuse me while I admire my new shoes some more.

I'm in Love with Misty Miller

I'm a huge fan of Burberry and when Angela Ahrendts, The CEO of Burberry was article on WSJ. (Wall Street Journal's magazine) recently on how she turned the brand image around.
(Emma Watson for their SS 2010 Collection!!)
And how she used social media platform for Burberry.
She also mentioned about Burberry Acoustic and I told myself I gotta check it out!

When I did, Misty Miller caught my heart.

PS: Check out the video of Burberry's Winter Storms Collection

I'm wishing for a snow storm in Singapore now.
