First Day of Work

Pretty late post on my side but, I started my first day of work today!

Definitely a steep learning curve ahead but I'm liking my boss and and colleagues.

So where am I working at? I'm working for a company that solely caters to golf events. Yes golf.
I think it'll be inevitable that I'll pick up on how to play golf and I'm looking forward to it.

Since also I've started work, juggling both my blog and work will be a challenge. Difficult yes but I'll manage.

Initially I had planned to post something else today but I thought since I'm finally a working girl (likening myself to Eddie Sedgewick. Lol), I'll write a short post that,

I'm a working girl now!

So today's initial post will be pushed to Wednesday and I've got to start drafting tomorrow's post now! ><

The Monday what??

Okay you're all probably clueless to what my post on monday is all about.

Well I've kind of announced it on twitter. Do you follow my twitter? No? Then start following @wakingupfamous! (yes, its a very blatant self promotion)

Anyway, I've finally found a job! *screams*

After weeks and weeks of sending out resumes, I'm so glad that finally, I've found a job.

The funny thing is, after a such a long dry spell of no reply, I received two interview invitations in a span of two hours.

I guess my prayers have been answered.

My family is part of a self-run Filipino family rosary prayer group. Its a group that started off 18 odd years ago (!!!) so that, the then small community of pinoys in SG can bond over prayer and fellowship.

Anyway, every month the image of Mother Mary and Jesus is adopted into a family's home for a month. The host family recites the rosary for the month daily. Guess who were the host for May?

At first it was tedious but I do love reciting the rosary as a family and everyday I prayed for her intercession that I may find a job. I had almost given up hope when it was almost time for the images to leave.

God heard my prayers through her intercession.

I'm bereft tho that she has left our house but I pray that she hears the prayers of the next family and intercedes for them.

(I understand that this isn't really the usual style of what I blog about as this is highly personal to me and you know how I try not to blog about too much personal stuff on my blog. However I felt that this was something I should share to everyone. Oh and yes, I'm catholic)

When couples fight.

Although friends assume Mr. Wonderful and I are the sweetest (not to mention the weirdest) couple and that we're also the couple that looks blissfully happy together that nothing ever goes wrong, that we're the one and we're the perfect couple.... (okay I exaggerate at this point but you get what I mean).

I must admit, its not all perfect in our little couple-dom.

But, the reason why we're still perfectly happy together is because we talk out our issues.

Initially when we got together, I assumed he can read my mind and know what I think. Trust me ladies, your men cannot read minds, if they can't even get the not-so-subtle hint of you blogging about you dream designer shoes, what makes you think they can read minds?

So, I assumed that he would know immediately what I didn't like or when I was unhappy. (He's much better at it now as compared to then) And often times, I walk off in a huff.

I also have the habit of sometimes keeping things to myself when I'm upset,

Mr. Wonderful: Baby what's wrong?
Me: Nothing.

Well anyway just recently we had quite a fight while out one day, I was kind of heartbroken at the things he said and it made me cry. He looked pretty panicked at that point. Then I explained to him that what he said was kind of shocking, that I couldn't believe he said that and why I thought what he said was wrong

(okay I know you're probably screaming in frustration and asking what the heck were we fighting about but its a rather private thing and I hope you understande)

Anyway Mr. Wonderful did realize he was wrong (aren't they always). Whenever we fight, he always feel guilty and when he feels guilty he gives me present.

He doesn't have to but as sweet the gesture is, I'd rather he understand what's wrong and not do it again. (Umm, if you're reading this Mr. Wonderful, I don't mean it! You can still give me presents if you feel guilty for upsetting me!)

That fight made me think of how far Mr. Wonderful and I have come.

Being a blissful couple doesn't mean we avoid issues. There may be tears, there may be frustration, there may be heart break but as long as both parties are willing to come to the middle, talk it out, even agree to to disagree, you'll come out stronger and closer as a couple.

Mr. Wonderful, I love you.

I need a sign

(Image by Work Is Not A Job)

I love Waking Up Famous. I love blogging.

BUT I'm kind of a loss at what to do. Do you ever feel that way sometimes?

If you ask me seriously how would I define Waking Up Famous, my answer would be a blank.

Don't worry I'll continue to blog. I'll never give up blogging but if you feel that lately that my posts lack the enthusiasm and passion, I apologize.

For now I've got to do some serious soul searching and answering the following hard questions.

Why do I blog?

What do I blog about?

Am I happy with what it is now?

and most importantly,

How would I define Waking Up Famous and the direction its heading?

The Graduation Dinner and Dance

Hey everyone. You're probably wondering what the heck happened to me after my last post.
Would you believe me if I said it took me this long to recover from the madness of my graduation dinner and dance?

Probably not. :P

After the D&D I've been going out almost everyday and barely have time to stop and blog.
And when I do have time, I've been using it to play the Sims 3m (I'm sorry! Don't shoot me), preparing for a flea market I'm joining at NUS (more bout this in another post), watching movies and busy fulfilling my role as an event planner in the G+ Committee (I'm excited bout this!).

But for now I'm going to blog bout my dinner and dance!

I didn't bring my DSLR that night but I did bring my really really old Canon Ixus camera.

First of all the event was held at Swissotel/Fairmont. Basically at Raffles City Shopping Centre.
Thank goodness Mr. Wonderful and I arrived early cos there was such awful traffic that day.
The Guest of Honour, the director of school was late even!

They had two pre-event stuff going on.

My favourite was the Photobooth! They actually set up a mini studio and we can take photos and get those photos printed out! I think an event wouldn't be complete without a photobooth. Its so fun!

PS: This is our awesome outfit that took literally weeks to put together!
If you realise I have no bulge! haha! After bemoaning the fact for so long, I actually bought a body shaper corset! Why did we ever stop wearing corsets?? They're so much more comfortable now than as before when they were in fashion in the 17th-18th century

( I scanned a few of the photos this in! sorry if the image isn't that clear)

The other activity they had was air-brush tattoo, so I got one. Love it?
I so want a tattoo but there's a lot of buts. sigh..

From here hence. I'll just post photos.

Pretty Woman Week: What's Your Name?

Edward Lewis: What's your name?
Vivian: What do you want it to be?

(PS. I know this post is completely unrelated to the movie Pretty Woman but the quote got me thinking)

Dear Readers, do you give your other half an endearing name?

I call mine, Mr. Wonderful.
He used to be called St Kevin. He is my first boyfriend you see and being in my first relationship I really was quite skittish and he had to put up with my hot and cold attitudes and my idiosyncrasies and I told him one day,

"You should be sainted for putting up with me.
St Kevin, the patron saint of suffering boyfriend"

Then somehow it evolved to Mr. Wondeful.

If you must know why he was reading this book, we actually bought it for my sister's birthday in March. He was quite curious about it you see. He confessed to me that his childhood wasn't as exciting as mine was. (Think climbing coconut trees, "borrowing" sampan to row out to sea, stealing my great grandma's rolled up cigarette to try etc)

He actually wanted to the "The Dangerous Book for Heroes" for himself cos he thinks the book I got for him for his 21st was too small. Boys.

I digress, I originally want to name him Mr. Darcy, my favourite male protagonist from Jane Austen's books, Pride and Prejudice, but he really was more of a Mr. Charles Bingley than anything else, so it was a no. You can't have Lizzie and Mr. Bingley together! (Oh the horror! and yes I tend to see myself as a Lizzie Bennet, call me delusional if you must)

I had a brief thought of calling him "the man" then immediately discarded it.
His chest is wide enough but I can already imagining it puffing up more from the ego boost he'll get for getting that nickname. Surely you ladies can understand why.

So that's why I stuck with Mr. Wonderful. Cos he is in essence the meaning of it.

So what bout you? What's your pet name for your other halve or what would you like to call your other half for those who've yet to find him?

Celebrating Mr. Wonderful's Birthday

Two weeks back we celebrated Mr. Wonderful's birthday.
If you're wondering why it took me awhile to post this up, its because I've been deliberating over whether to post this up due to the nature of the party. I'll keep it brief because,

let's just say it involved, Porn Stars, STDs and an MP(Yes your Minister of Parliament) visiting.

A word of warning. Have a Rated-R theme party at your own risk.

The Standstill Challenge

I am a horrible blogger.

There I've said it. And I know alot of you out there will agree. What blogger leaves her blog stale for two weeks??

I've been to caught up in real life, mostly school work.
This semester being the final hurdle. I'm inundated by presentations, report and making time for a hundred and million things that I neglect Waking Up Famous.

I am not giving up tho.

Having a semi-working laptop is a pain and with no means to repair, makes me shockingly feel so disabled.
and not so surprisingly, I realised I am horribly reliant on my laptop.

(if there is a laptop God, I would be so grateful to receive a new one)

But the MONTHS(okay I exaggerated here but it feels like it) without having a laptop is strangely liberating.

Sure I've suffered from withdrawal symptoms (nausea, shivering hands and insecurity) in the first week but after a while, I suddenly found the time to jog (I signed up for Sundown Marathon this year), read for leisure and be more active in church.

So my challenge from me to you is to live without your computer/iphone/laptop/ipad for a week and see what happens.

(PS: I really do need a to repair mine or my blog postings will be sporadic  at best.)

For now enjoy this beautiful video I came across.

2011

Can't you believe it? Its 2011??

Glitters - Waking Up Famous

And as with every new beginning we make new resolutions BUT before that, I believe in reviewing your past resolutions because how else will you know if you've done what you wished to do? For 2010 my resolutions were somewhat unfulfilled. D: And I know this list is terribly late.

Hopefully I will do better for 2011! So here's my list of new year resolution:

  • Run a marathon. the whole 42.2 km marathon.
  • Get 100 follower for Waking Up Famous
  • I want to learn how to knit
  • Start up my online shop
  • Need to save $1000 at least and it shall remain untouched.
  • Graduate.
  • Travel this year with Family
  • Take photography more seriously
  • Blog at least 3 times a week
  • Graduate and start on my career!

So that's my list. What's yours?

Christmas is like being in the throes of young love

Last night the church I am in, had our annual 'retreat'. This time a BBQ because we were too late in booking a chalet this busy season.

It was a really fun night! Although I feel a little bit guilty at not helping clean up after.

The food was great since it was a pot luck as well. I especially love roasting marshmallows and my junior realized that his marshmallow had a smiley face on it!

And this Christmas is the 3rd one I'm celebrating with Mr. Wonderful celebrating together! <3

Presenting my class, The Mug Shot Edition

As I mentioned, my class did a photoshoot and here are the photos hot from Facebook!

Aren't we cute!!

I'm the one with the Kitty Cat Ears! <3

If you have not realized it yet, Girls outnumber guys, by ALOT.

There's suppose to be 21 of us, 6 guys, 15 girls but a few of them found it pointless to do it.
Oh well, its not our fault they don't want to be part of a class.

Anyway, our awesome photographer, Shamil is my classmate's (Zara) boyfriend and he willingly did for free!

My eyes literally turn bug-eyed when I saw his equipments. The investment in the equipment pretty much says it all for his dedication to the craft!
(I'm feeling a little jealous right now)

Oh yea! I forgot to mention we're suppose to do some sort of mugshot themed photo inspired by this.

So the plan was to give each other nicknames that best described us.

We also wanted to do a height chart but we didn't have time and when we did an impromptu one, it was too short for the tallest person in the class.

Presenting my classmates and their nicknames!

If only you know the reasons behind the nicknames. It'll be too long to explain all.
So guess what's mine??
(PS: I know the photo placement's a bit weird but when I arranged it when I was composing this post it was alright)

They put down The Little Blogger for me, very apt.
The "Nuffnang FTW" is.. Lol.

So now here come's the hard part, We have to choose 1 group shot out of the many and I have to chose 1 individual shot. So why don't you help me decide?

There actually 4 shots, but I decided to put up this two. The least awkward of the 4. (Posing for shoots is a lot harder than it looks!)

So leave a comment and tell me which photo should grace our year book photo, The one on the left or the right with the Kitty Kat Ears!

New Cut!

I forgot I didn't take a photo of myself for the DKNY Post! >.<
What kind of blogger am I??
(Thanks to BFF for this photo)

Anyway I wanted to show off my new look!

I cut straight bangs two weeks back but I only got to show it to you guys today.

Well its suppose to be straight. I asked for straights bangs but the hairdresser thinned my bangs! AGAIN!

And no, I didn't go to the same cheapo hair salon when I had to salvage my hair a month back when I came up with this crazy idea to DIY my bangs.

I went to one that charged me $22 for a haircut at Kovan because the hair salons in Sengkang were out to fleece me!

But the hair salon in Kovan had ITE student trainees O.o They're nice. Really nice. They just don't get my concept even after showing them a picture of Zooey Deschanel.

Failed again. I'm going to get the straight bangs look straight even if I have to pay a thousand dollars! (Not really a thousand, maybe 50)

PS. I think Thinning Sccissors should be banned.

Turning 21

(No monday quickies this week!)

Today I turned 21

I feel terrible. I really blame Mr. Wonderful for this. I celebrated my birthday on Saturday.

In summary I ate alot (High Tea Buffet), drank alot (Tequila shot after buffet, two house pour drinks I can't remember and a Waterfall later at night), got dead drunk and suffered the worst hangover the next day.

Up to now I'm still suffering from the lingering effects of my gluttony.

Physically, that's how I feel.

Anyway, on a deeper level, 21 is a huge milestone for anyone. I'm grateful and glad I spent it with loved ones. Truthfully, the weeks leading up to my birthday was filled with excitement and dread. I didn't really prepare myself for this.

Despite the weeks of anticipation, I'll liken today as having a baby grand being dropped on my head.

I'm 21. So what am I suppose to do? What does it all mean?

(Yep, completely ill-prepared, no wishes, dreams or hopes for the future. The best I did was save my candles and today's newspapers)

I do have some regrets. Like if I can do this day all over again, I'd like to prepare myself.

Don't mind me, I'm just in a melancholic mood.
I just realized I have to start paying taxes now.

The one thing you should never tweet about

So I was on twitter last night when I tweeted this.

Then I received a reply

 Followed by,

Actually just follow the whole action which I screen captured, giving a narration of how my one tweet went haywire is too painful.

After reviewing the screen captures,
I realized a few thing,

1. I've become a pushover;
2. I'm afraid to go on twitter
3. I type "lol" in my tweets. Alot.

So apart from that I've decided to blog the above as a warning to all on one thing you should never tweet about.
(or the people who you should avoid)
